Needham Habitat Fundraiser a Success
by Many Measures
Needham Interfaith Habitat held a fundraiser, “There’s No Place Like Home”,
hosted by Erna and Bob Place of South Street, on Saturday September 16th, 2006.
The funds raised will benefit the 3 bedroom Needham Habitat Home to be built on
the corner of Brookline and Bancroft Streets in Spring of ’07. Representatives
of the Needham Clergy Association, which formed Needham Interfaith Habitat in
2002, included the Rev. Caroline Edge and Rev. John Buehrens. Attendees
represented all the Temples and Houses of worship in Needham, in addition to
many other interested supporters and Town leaders.
A brief presentation was made by NIH co-chairs Tim McCleary and Rev. Caroline
Edge which included the progress made by NIH in securing a piece of land for a
Habitat home, various fundraising benchmarks, and showcasing a model of the
home to be built. Lark Palermo, Executive Director of Greater Boston Habitat
for Humanity spoke of the energized partnership with Needham Interfaith
Habitat, as well as a significant corporate sponsorship donation to be
announced at an upcoming event on Fri. Oct. 6th.
About 70 people enjoyed a gorgeous summer evening at the Place’s home with
delicious food and energetic conversation. Many invitees who could not attend
the event provided donations. Total donations for the event are about $9,000 to
date and still being received. Many thanks to Erna and Bob, as well as the many
workers and donors that made this event enjoyable and a financial success.
